Sarah and Stan

It seems like an absolute ago I had a day of tree climbing, laughter and using Mum as a climbing frame before going back to school after the long summer break. This year has been an intense one for everyone but it was so great to hear the way Sarah and Stan spoke about navigating space, personal boundaries, not having friends around and when it was and was not a good idea to do school work.

I think about how this time will be reflected in years to come, whether we have just created the first generation who is excited about going to school in this country since the last world war, and how the teachers are managing to reset boundaries, and how this will all be reflected in people’s learning in years to come. And if it is not - what have we seen that we could change.

When I think of parenting in 2020, I am frequently brought back to something I heard Elliott Clarkson

say a few months ago which seemed to sum everything about parenting in this hugely complex year for a lot of people: “It has not been easy, but it has not been hard. But I will never forget the summer of 2020.”

Here’s to all those doing their best, and for you, whatever and whoever you are supporting this lockdown - remember you are also doing your best.
